“Did I Mention The Olives?” (Bougain-veal-ia) – Shadorma

“Bougainvillean Dreams” by Jaime Clark

Did I Mention The Olives?

He ordered,
beneath pink courtyard
vines, the Mounds
of Venus
two scoops mozzarelle on veal–
cheeks deep pink then too.

*******************************

The above is a very silly version of Shadorma – a six line form with a set syllabic pattern – written for Kerry O’Connor’s With Real Toads challenge involving the use of Shadormas and wonderful “macro” photographs by Jaime Clark.   Check out Kerry’s article for info on Shadormas, and more beautiful pics!             .

PS – as a longterm vegetarian, hate to make a joke involving veal- in other words – maybe stick to the olives and mozzarelle! And Pasta and Fagioli!

  1. I eat meat, but the thought of veal does make me feel rather ill, so I’ll happily stick to olives and good cheese any day of the week… Yum!

  2. Grace Says:

K, how creatively you used the form…I don’t eat veal but I like scene of the pink courtyard ~

  3. Susan Says:

Ha ha-cracked me up just picturing it! I would have turned pink as the courtyard the4n too!

  4. hedgewitch Says:

    *snork*

I have a pact with baby animals–I don’t eat them, and they don’t eat me. So far it’s worked out really well.

  5. David King Says:

Love how you used this. I used to be very fond of veal, but don’t eat it now.

  6. Wow! The image of the cheese turning pink certainly put me off this meal – not that I would ever touch veal, even as a meat eater!
I think you have done something remarkable with the pic and form.

    • ManicDdaily Says:

Oh dear – it’s supposed to be the man’s cheeks turning pink, maybe I should change to blush.

It’s really about embarrassment. I used grow because of the vines – but maybe should move to blush. Hmmm…

  7. janehewey Says:

nice! i love the color and dry humor here. I, too, prefer letting baby animals live. :)

  8. Mozzarelle- oh yes, meat- oh no! But I loved the poem and got a chuckle.

I'd love to hear from you!
